Employer insightsAuthor: Molly Kennedy

Healthcare communications are evolving rapidly, with agencies adapting to new technologies, changing customer expectations, and increasingly integrated ways of working. Molly Kennedy, Associate Director at BioTalent, leads our Pharma Services recruitment practice across the U.S., partnering with healthcare and pharmaceutical agencies to build high-performing teams. In this spotlight, she shares the trends shaping the market, the skills currently in demand, and the career advice that has stayed with her throughout her journey.

Can you give us an overview of your role and your area of expertise at BioTalent?

I lead BioTalent's Pharma Services recruitment practice, partnering with healthcare and pharmaceutical agencies across the U.S. to build high-performing teams. We support organisations across advertising, medical communications, and market access, helping them hire talent across client services, strategy, creative, production, operations, and scientific functions.

Having specialised in this market for several years, I've built a strong network within the healthcare agency landscape and enjoy helping clients and candidates build long-term, meaningful partnerships.

What trends are you currently seeing in the life sciences market, and which skillsets are in highest demand?

One of the biggest shifts we're seeing is the growing intersection of healthcare communications and AI. Agencies are investing in AI-enabled capabilities while continuing to look for professionals who can combine strategic thinking with digital innovation.

We're also seeing strong demand for experienced professionals across account services, strategy, creative, and scientific functions. Candidates with product launch experience, the ability to work across both HCP and DTC audiences, and experience operating within integrated agency environments are particularly sought after.

What is the best piece of career advice you've ever received?

Lead with authenticity.

Early in your career, it's easy to think you need to mirror the leadership style or personality of those around you. I've learned that the best leaders are the ones who stay true to themselves. People respond to authenticity, and you'll build stronger relationships and have a far greater impact when you lean into who you are.

If you weren't working in recruitment, what career path might you have pursued?

I'd probably have pursued a career in the music industry, ideally with a company like Spotify. I love discovering new artists and bands, and I'm always the person sharing new songs, albums, and playlists with friends and family. I'm also a huge fan of live music and will almost always choose general admission over assigned seat, it just makes for a more memorable experience.

Outside of work, what's something people might be surprised to learn about you?

Living in South Florida means I spend as much time as possible outdoors, whether that's on the water, playing tennis, or hosting a mahjong night with friends. When I'm not doing that, you'll usually find me spending time with my family and my Golden Retriever, Auto.
